Denyse Wheelerdecker, about 65, of Rio Rancho, was summoned for aggravated assault on Christmas Eve near Walmart on Unser Blvd.

Dispatch notified police that a caller said a woman in an SUV pointed a firearm at them. Officers spoke with the caller when they arrived on scene.

The caller said he is an Uber driver and was taking a break to eat in the Walgreens parking lot. While he was doing so, the suspect (Wheelerdecker) was driving around the nearby buildings. She drove up behind where he was parked and checked his registration plate. The caller said he thought she was security and drove toward Walmart.

He said he passed the Wheelerdecker vehicle and saw that she was pointing a gun out the window toward him. As she pointed it at him, she said, “Get the f*** out of here.”

He told police he was afraid she would shoot him, so he left the area and called 911.

Officers were able to find Wheelerdecker based off of the caller’s description of her car. Police report that they are familiar with Wheelerdecker because she often called them from the Walmart parking lot, saying people were stalking her.

When officers spoke to her she said she saw the victim parked near Walgreens. She said she used her binoculars to see him from where she was in the Walmart parking lot. She said she believed he was stalking her.

She said she wrote down the license plate and drove back to the Walmart parking lot. She said when the caller drove by her vehicle, she pointed the gun at him. Police confirm what she told them was consistent with the caller’s statements, including that she said, “Get the f*** out of here.”

She admitted that she knew she had committed a crime, but insisted that she was being stalked and harassed. She was transported to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.

If convicted, Wheelerdecker will face a year and a half in prison.
