Woman summoned for pointing gun at daughter
Pam Briscoe, 71, of Rio Rancho, was summoned for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on the 600 block of Dennison Park Loop.
Officers were dispatched in reference to a domestic in progress call. The caller stated the female’s mother had just pointed a large gun at her and screamed at her to get out of the house.
Officers talked with Briscoe once they were on scene. She said she and her daughter had gotten into a huge argument.
She said they continued to argue for some time before Briscoe decided she was just going to go to her room, so things do not become physical. Shortly after she went to her bedroom, the daughter came into the room. She added that due to the argument they were just involved in, escalating to a point where she felt she was going to be physically harmed by her daughter, Pam grabbed a Bonetti long gun from her closet and held it up toward her daughter, yelling for her to “get out”.
She told officers she had recently been through spinal surgery and has many physical health complications so she would not be able to defend herself physically if the situation were to come to that, hence the reason for grabbing the long gun in an attempt to defend herself.
The daughter’s statement was consistent with Briscoe’s. She told police that this was the first time her mother pointed a gun at her in a long time. The first time was when she was a kid. Her mother fired a shot at her but missed.
With the incident that had occurred in the past, she believed Briscoe could have shot her.
Officers didn’t arrest Briscoe due to her condition but she was charged nonetheless.
Briscoe would face 1 and 1/2 years in prison if convicted.
