Woman summoned for battering victim with brass knuckles
Kaitlyn Johnson, about 32, of Rio Rancho, was summoned for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon, battery against a household member and criminal damage to property Oct. 13 at a residence on the 400 block of Apache Loop.
Officers received a call of a domestic violence incident in progress where the calling party’s ex-girlfriend had been banging on the front door, then entered the home and began battering her boyfriend.
According to the report, the victim was bleeding from the head and the home was in disarray.
The caller explained that her ex-girlfriend, Johnson, arrived at the home and began banging on the front door. She said Johnson was screaming profanities and attempting to enter the house.
The caller added that she and her family were rushing to stack furniture against the door for extra protection from Johnson. When Johnson wasn’t able to get in through the front door,
she went into the backyard, damaged two screen doors and pushed an air-conditioning unit through the window in order to get in.
At this time, the caller said Johnson walked into the master bedroom and began striking her boyfriend with an unknown object and pushed the caller out of the way in efforts to reach him. Although they could not identify the object used, she told police Johnson is known to carry brass knuckles. Police were able to use photos of injuries to the victim’s back to determine they were consistent with the use of brass knuckles.
Johnson fled the residence prior to officers’ arrival.
The caller also said her child was also present during the altercation. The child witnessed Johnson repeatedly strike the victim in the face and head after she entered through the child’s room. The child described the incident as terrifying and was on the phone with 911 while the incident unfolded. The child admitted to always being afraid of Johnson.
If convicted, Johnson could face three to 11 years in prison.
