Woman seriously injured in North Hills stabbing
RIO RANCHO — A woman was sent to the hospital with a stab wound and another was arrested in the incident Oct. 22.
Ashley Brand, 31, of Rio Rancho, was arrested for aggravated battery causing great bodily harm in the 1800 block of Blackberry Road.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the 13th Judicial District Court, a 22-year-old woman was stabbed in the torso by Brand and had to have surgery on the wound.
A witness and friend of the victim told police he and the victim drove to the residence that evening. When parked, he told police, a woman approached the car on the victim’s side. She opened the door and began arguing with the victim, accusing her of stealing. He said the two began fighting physically, until he heard the victim gasp. Brand backed up, and the witness saw she was holding a knife. He then saw a large amount of blood seeping through the shirt of the victim.
Brand was identified after police talked to other witnesses. She confessed to the stabbing and was taken to the Sandoval County Detention Center.
Brand faces three or more years in prison if convicted.
