Woman arrested for slashing boyfriend
Gladys Powers, 26, of Espanola, was arrested Aug.12 for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon on Safelite Boulevard.
According to a criminal complaint filed by police, the caller said his girlfriend attacked him with a knife.
He police he was playing video games all day when Powers became intoxicated and got confrontational with him. He said they began to argue and then she pulled out a pocket knife. He said she set the knife on the counter so he grabbed it and put it on top of the cabinets along with the block of kitchen knives.
She in turn grabbed a knife from the dishwasher and slashed on his finger. He then locked himself in the bathroom until police arrived.
Powers appeared intoxicated to officers when she spoke with them. She said her boyfriend was the one to attack her and that first he slapped her but then changed her story to say he punched her. She admitted to slashing him with the knife but claimed it was because he hit her. Police saw no markings on her that would indicate she had been hit.
Powers could face up to three years in prison if she is convicted.
