The Albuquerque National Weather Service announced Nov. 1 that snow may be in store for higher-terrain areas in the Sandoval County and northern parts of the state.
According to a release, light to moderate snowfall is likely in the higher terrain Sunday night through Monday. The first light snowfall of the season is also possible for lower-elevation areas down to 6,500 feet or possibly even 5,500 feet.
A backdoor cold front entering northeast New Mexico Sunday night may allow for snow and blowing snow to affect areas as far south as the I-40 corridor. Temperatures will be "marginally cold" in most lower-elevation areas, so travel impacts will be limited to low visibility and wet roadways. Temperatures will be cold enough in the higher terrain for slick and hazardous travel Sunday night and Monday, especially above 8,000 feet.
