Traffic is moving in both directions on Interstate 25 after a multi-vehicle accident shut down northbound traffic late Wednesday afternoon.

New Mexico State Police reported that the crash shut down northbound Interstate 25 at mile marker 254 — north of San Felipe Pueblo and Algodones — and Sandoval County Fire Department responded to the incident.

Sandoval County Fire Chief Eric Masterson said that traffic is again moving following the incident involving 23 vehicles.

According to Masterson, Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State Police are still on scene to manage traffic and the removal of vehicles.

Preliminary reports indicate that 51 patient assessments were performed and 18 people with varying degrees of injury were transported to hospitals in Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
