Two staff summoned for possession of ‘dangerous’ drugs at Eagle Ridge Middle School
Crystal Chapin, 42, of Rio Rancho, and Marisa Garcia, 48, of Rio Rancho, were summoned for unlawfully selling, disposing of or possessing dangerous drugs at Eagle Ridge Middle School Dec. 5.
Rio Rancho Public Schools’ human resources director reported that they had a bottle with 89 capsules of Gabapentin, a classified non-narcotic that is a prescription drug for treating seizures. The bottle was prescribed to Garcia.
The investigator told police that a school nurse reported a prescription drug transaction at the front desk of the school, which was confirmed on security footage. The footage showed Chapin walk up to the front desk at 7:56 a.m. and set her cellphone down on the counter where Garcia was sitting. Garcia then placed the pill bottle on the counter, and Chapin takes it and her phone and walked into the school from there.
Chapin and Garcia could face prison time if they are convicted. The sentence could be a little over a year or more.
