Two rescued from balloon suspended in tree

Two occupants were removed from the suspended gondola of a balloon Wednesday morning after crashing into a tree during an attempted landing on the old golf course.

Rio Rancho Fire Rescue rescued the occupants of a balloon trapped in a tree on the old golf course Wednesday morning.

According to a social media post from the Rio Rancho Police Department, officers responded to a report of a balloon crash around 8:05 a.m.

The post goes on to say that the balloon was attempting to land when it struck a large tree in an open field. The gondola was suspended approximately 25 feet above ground with two people inside.

RRFR responded with a ladder truck and removed the passengers from the suspended gondola. One was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the the FAA and New Mexico State Police were also notified of and responded to the crash.

"We would like to thank the members of the community who assisted this morning," RRPD wrote in the post. "We are thankful the pilot and the occupant were not seriously injured. We wish them a speedy recovery and hope they are flying again soon!"
