Two new commissioners and return for Jones in Sandoval County Commission race
Sandoval County has two brand-new commissioners and is welcoming back Commissioner Joshua Jones after the results came in just after midnight Nov. 6.
In District 2, Republican Jon Herr took the seat with 7,530 votes to the 6,314 votes attained by Democrat Beau Sandoval. This seat was up for grabs after Jay Block announced he would run for state Senate.
District 4 will welcome Jordan Juarez to its seat as he beat Madigan Ray 7,112 votes to her 5,613 votes. This seat was available after Dave Heil announced his retirement.
Juarez is looking forward to serving the district and thanked his constituents for voting for him.
"We're humbled by the opportunity," he said.
He added that he hopes to get a lot done while on commission.
The commission will also see the familiar face of Jones, who was appointed as the District 5 Sandoval County Commissioner on Jan. 6, 2023, by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to fill vacancy created by the resignation of former Commissioner Kenneth Eichwald. He won his race against Justin Garcia with 7,104 votes to Garcia's 4,762 votes.
Herr and Jones have not yet responded to requests for comment.
