Threatening Snapchat locks down football field; no ties to teen homicide

Published Modified

RIO RANCHO — A threatening Snapchat was the reason many people at the Storm vs. Rams rivalry game Nov. 1 were late getting home.

Rio Rancho Police Department says it was made aware of an unconfirmed Snapchat that was threatening in nature.

“As a result, the parking lot was cleared of all patrons, and players and player families were asked to exit the stadium with RRPD presence to ensure the safety of all,” Capt. Jacquelynn Reedy said. “The RRHS v. CHS football game proved to be a safe and fun competition without incident.”

While some media have insinuated the incident was tied to the Oct. 30 homicide of 15-year-old Adrian Maestas Jr., Reedy confirmed that there was no evidence that the two are related at all.
