Suspected kidnapper arrested

RIO RANCHO — A Rio Rancho man is facing kidnapping and several other charges.

Daymino Nelson, 21, of Rio Rancho, was arrested for kidnapping, aggravated battery, two counts aggravated assault, child abuse, interference with communication and battery.

The victim is an separated from Nelson, and they were looking for protection orders against each other, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.

According to the document, the victim said they got a call from Nelson, who told the victim he wanted to try to work things out without getting the courts involved. The victim had gone to his residence to talk it out.

When they got to his residence, he got in the car and told the victim to drive around so they can talk. At first the conversation went well, according to the victim, but Nelson became upset and pulled a knife. He told the victim to drive them back to his home and threatened to stab the victim if they did anything. While the victim was driving, Nelson reportedly jerked the steering wheel multiple times. The victim stopped the car because there was a minor in the vehicle.

Nelson continued to threaten the victim and the child with the knife, saying he would stab them. The victim tried to grab their phone to call 911, but Nelson took it while still holding the knife. He also reportedly tried to grope the victim. The victim fought back, starting an altercation, and Nelson restrained the victim from leaving. Eventually, the victim got loose and ran from the vehicle. Nelson then caught up and started to choke the victim with both hands. He let go as the victim's vision became blurry. He drove them back to his house, where he eventually, he let the victim and child go.

Officers note the victim had injuries consistent with the story and requested an arrest warrant.

Kidnapping is considered a first-degree felony with a maximum jail sentence of 20 or more years.
