The Albuquerque National Weather Service sent out a winter storm warning for west and central New Mexico that will last Wednesday through Thursday.

It will bring strong winds and snow on Thursday for Rio Rancho as well as temperatures that could cause plumbing issues.

Wind gusts will reach 30-60 mph in some areas. Thursday night will continue to be very blustery after a 70% chance of snow that day.

The strong winds will blow and drift snow, making travel hazardous. Bitterly cold wind chill temperatures are forecast with readings generally varying from the below zero to the teens Wednesday night into Thursday morning with even colder readings Thursday night.

Travelers and those planning outdoor activities should monitor the weather forecast over the next few days and remain alert for any watches, warnings and advisories that are issued in order to prepare themselves for the potentially dangerous winter storm.

Locally, snow accumulation is unlikely.
