ALBUQUERQUE – It was bright and early, the sun was shining, the crisp winter morning air hung over the grass fields, but there was a Storm coming to the Albuquerque Academy Natatorium on Feb. 1.

Ava Schlosser led her girls Storm squad to the eigth-place finish (out of 18) with 34 total points. That score includes two silver medals. Schlosser took second in the 50-yard Freestyle and the 100-yard Backstroke.

Ziyah Chavez-Rodriguez also grabbed a sneaky 12th-place finish in the 500-yard Freestyle with a time of 6:06.62.

On the boys side, four swimmers grabbed medals to vault Cleveland to the 10th-place finish. Guha Hari, Lucas Espinosa, Dylan Schluep and Diego Cavadas Comarella all took bronze medals. Hari led the squad with 12 total points.

With the last regular season meet now in the rearview, the Storm will buckle down and get to work preparing for championship season.

First up, the District Championship will take place Feb. 14-15 at Albuquerque Academy Natatorium in Albuquerque. Visit rrobserver.com for more information as it becomes available.

The following weekend, Feb. 21-22 the NMAA State Swimming & Diving Championship finals will take place, also at the Albuquerque Academy Natatorium. Qualifying rounds for the State Championship begin Monday, Feb. 17.
