Storm, Rams wrestling qualify for State Championship

FARMINGTON — It was “for all the marbles” time in Farmington this past weekend as the Rams and Storm boys wrestling teams headed north to compete in the 2025 NMAA Region 1-5A Championship at Piedra Vista High School.

Like the girls, who competed the previous weekend (Feb. 8-9), the boys had strong showings.

For the Storm, the day went almost perfectly. The team finished in second place with 220 points and qualified for all 13 weight classes at the State Championship next wekend.

Elias Martinez (114-pounds), Roman Luttrell (121) and Wade Wallace (152) led the Storm with first-place victories in their weight classes.

The boys will be joined by the nine Storm girls who qualified last week.

On the Rams side, RRHS finished in fourth place with 139 points.

Eli Archibeque (107) led the Rams with a gold medal in his weight class, but the Rams also qualified their entire boys team for the State Championship. They’ll be joined by five Rams girls who qualified at the girls tournament last weekend.

“The boys did great, and we qualified our whole team for state,” announced the team on Instagram, @riorancho_wrestling.

The NMAA State Wrestling Championship runs Feb. 21-22 at the Rio Rancho Events Center. Tickets can be purchased at GoFan.co and the event will be livestreamed at nfhsnetwork.com.
