Sparklight Regional General Manager Richard Estrada presented The Ask Academy with a $2,500 award to recognize its STEM education program and the role it plays in preparing students for future success Thursday afternoon.

The award is part of Sparklight’s “Dream Bigger” social media campaign, which invites schools and organizations providing K-12 students with STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and related education to apply for monetary awards.

The ASK Academy was one of six schools chosen from more than 100 applicants in the 21 states Sparklight serves. ASK submitted an entry outlining how the award would be used to fund its STEM projects. A public vote determined ASK was one of the winners.

The ASK Academy will use the $2,500 to help students acquire the resources and equipment needed to explore new areas of robotics, physics and engineering as well as attend a STEM-related field trip.

“This funding will provide our students with the opportunity to access resources that would otherwise be unavailable to them, and will help them achieve their goals and make a positive impact in their community,” Ask Academy teacher Amber Lial said. “This is super awesome. We’re so excited the kids were just awesome about participating in voting and getting their parents to vote and it is just so amazing. We’re so thankful and grateful for everything that this is going to do.”

Since 2019, Sparklight and the associated Cable One family of brands have awarded nearly $120,000 to STEM projects through the “Dream Bigger” initiative.

Estrada was on hand at the academy Thursday to present the check to students and staff.

“Sparklight is committed to giving back to the communities we serve, and we are proud to play a part in helping to develop the technical skills of our future leaders,” Estrada said. “We look forward to seeing what The Ask Academy’s students are able to accomplish with this additional funding. When it comes to STEM programs specifically, we believe in technology, we value the work that you guys are doing and we can’t be prouder to be able to afford this.”
