Snow Friday, Saturday
RIO RANCHO — As if the hot to cold swing in New Mexico's weather and the extreme winds weren't enough, there is a real chance it will snow April 4-5 in the Rio Rancho area.
According to the Albuquerque National Weather Service, some areas in the state can expect several inches of snow.
"Late season winter storm this weekend will bring widespread rain and snow. Highest confidence for winter impacts will be in the northern mountains along the Colorado border, areas such as Raton Pass. Between 6 and 12 inches of snow is expected across the Northern Mountains with lesser amounts elsewhere. Lower elevations will see much-needed rainfall, especially in eastern NM," the website states.
Inch counts will be minimal to none in the Rio Rancho area, however. The good news is the area will get some needed moisture from the precipitation. Most of that moisture will trickle down from the mountainous terrain snow pack, according to the weather service.
Rio Rancho's last major snow storm occurred in November. It last got a trickle of rain March 29.
