Rio Rancho Police Department sent out a warning around 3:30 p.m. Dec. 26 saying scammers are calling citizens pretending to be RRPD officers.
The scammers are telling citizens they have warrants and are requesting payments to Venmo, cash app and other apps to resolve them.
“RRPD will never request money for warrants! If you receive a similar call, please hang up and file an online police report,” the release states.
People can also call 505-891-7226 to have an officer respond to take a report.
