Sandoval County says 'yes' to Harris, Heinrich, Jones
SANDOVAL COUNTY — New Mexico, a once-purple battleground state, has been consistently blue (i.e. Democrat) for decades now.
However, there are pockets of red (i.e. Republican) within the Land of Enchantment, and Sandoval County is home to Rio Rancho, which often tends to lean more conservative in its voting trends.
It seems to have made a slight difference, at least as far as Sandoval County voters go, though it might not have the impact voters had hoped for.
Sandoval County went mostly blue, along with the state of New Mexico. Vice President Kamala Harris, Sen. Martin Heinrich and Rep. Melanie Anne Stansbury all won the state.
For Heinrich and Stansbury, that means a return to Washington, D.C., to take their old jobs back. The presidential race was still undecided at the time this update was prepared.
But for Sandoval County voters, it was a “no” to Stansbury and a “yes” to her opponent Steve Jones, who won the county but lost the state.
