Sandoval County firefighters certified as Rope Rescue Technicians
Sandoval County firefighters were certified as Rope Rescue Technicians last month.
Sandoval County Fire and Rescue recently hosted a Rope Rescue Technician Level I Class that included firefighters from local fire departments.
The five-day class was led by the New Mexico Firefighters Training Academy and held at SCFR Station 21, which has a training tower. The course was a mixture of classroom instruction and practical skills experience to prepare firefighters to perform technical rescues.
Rope Rescue Skills are essential for firefighters, allowing them to access, stabilize and ultimately rescue patients from cliffs, canyons or structures.
“During this class, three SCFR members became certified as instructors,” SCFR Battalion Chief Adam Quinn said. “This now allows us to offer this certification course more frequently, train our cadets sooner and enhance our capabilities to perform technical rescues in Sandoval County and surrounding communities.”
