Sandoval County, AFSCME strike bargaining agreement for detention center staff
BERNALILLO — A motion to approve the Negotiated Collective Bargaining Agreement between Sandoval County and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) was approved unanimously by commissioners during the April 23 commission meeting.
The agreement was requested to be renegotiated Feb. 4.
“Sandoval County and AFSMCE entered into contract negotiations for a successor CBA regarding wage rates and other terms and conditions on February 21, 2025, and was successfully concluded on March 24, 2025,” the resolution cover page states.
There was no discussion or comment on the issue, but the agreement attached to the resolution goes over all parts of the bargaining unit expectations between the county and AFSCME.
AFSCME covers employees in several departments, including detention officers, corporals, sergeants, front desk officers, mail officers, property officers, recreation officers, transport officers, sergeant booking, fire safety sanitation officer and training and recruiting specialists at the detention center. The agreement does not include newly hired probationary employees, employees above the rank of sergeant, management, confidential or supervisory positions.
AFSCME union representatives will be responsible for bargaining from wages, hours and working conditions.
