RRPS sending 14 wrestlers to girl's state championship

LAS VEGAS, NM – The Rams and Storm girls wrestling squads headed north to Las Vegas this past weekend for the NMAA Girls Region 1 District Championships. The meet determines both the district champions and who will go on to compete at the State Championship, Feb. 21-22 at the Rio Rancho Event Center.

The Cleveland Storm were the big winners on the day, taking the 1st-place trophy with 190 points.

The RRHS Rams took 11th (out of 30) with 85 points.

In the 114-pound class, Storm freshman wrestler Miranda Stewart continued her dominant season with a win by Fall over Sandia sophomore Brianna Lucero. Stewart now sports a 34-8 record.

At the 132-pound level, Heaven Guevara boosted her season record to 21-3 with the win over Eldorado’s Madelyn Quintana in the first-place match.

Eloise Woolsey remained undefeated this season after winning the 152-pound class with a victory over Jade Blackhart of Los Alamos.

In total, nine Storm and five Rams wrestlers qualified for the State Championship.
