RRPS implementing bus rider tracking system
Rio Rancho Public Schools is implementing a new ID system for its bus riders.
The district has created scannable RFID cards for each student who rides a bus, and they will be scanned as students get on and off the bus each day. The new districtwide system is an added safety measure that allows bus drivers to see whether the student is on the correct bus as well as which stop the student is supposed to depart. In logging the students’ onboarding and offboarding process, it also allows for the tracking of students in the unlikely event they go missing, the district said. Cards are only scannable by the RRPS system and only contain the student name and grade level.
The Student Transportation Department is planning to deliver the cards to all elementary schools by the end of this week, with middle and high school cards to be delivered to schools soon after. Parents with bus riders are encouraged to remind their student(s) of the importance of their new school-issued bus card.
