Rio Rancho Police Department took gold in the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive July 27 against Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue.

"As long as I have been a police officer, it has been a fun, friendly competition," RRPD Capt. Jacquelynn Reedy said.

She added that it is a way of getting people out to give "the resource we all need more than water."

This "battle" however, was a very friendly one.

"We have a wonderful relationship with the Rio Rancho Fire Department. They are absolutely just an incredible team to work alongside," Reedy said.

RRFR had no hard feelings about being beaten by RRPD, either.

"It looks like RRPD topped RRFR this year, but everyone that donated is a true hero. The donation of life-saving blood will go to help not only our community but people all over New Mexico," RRFR's Sean Gerdemann said.

RRPD and RRFR are known for teaming up for other events and will continue to do so as they all work for the city of Rio Rancho.

The blood drive is an annual statewide initiative in New Mexico with the company Vitalant. There are more drives coming up in other New Mexico cities. For more information, visit the website.

The score was 13-8 at the end of the blood drive.
