The Rio Rancho Police Department is asking people to drive safely after they issued more than 300 traffic citations on Enchanted Hills Blvd. since Sept. 25.

“Please help us get that number to zero! Thank you for your cooperation and keeping our construction crews safe,” a post from the department reads.

The city also advises the public that the traffic pattern will change in the next 90 days.

In 2022, the police department responded to 618 crash reports. The DWI unit wrote 2226 traffic citations in that same year.

To deal with speeding in Rio Rancho, the department has speed vans parked around the city called the Safe Traffic Operations Program (S.T.O.P.).

“The vans use radar, photo and video technology to deter speeding motorists. The program employs eight mobile speed enforcement units. The mobile speed

enforcement units are placed throughout the city based upon need. In 2022 alone, 17,328 speeding citations were issued for speeding 11 mph and over the posted speed limit,” the the RRPD annual report states.

Earlier this month, the traffic patterns on Enchanted Hills Blvd. caused concern for many citizens.
