RRHS Homecoming is here!
RRHS students Anika Garduno (left) and Ibrahim Hoffman (right) wave to the crowd after both were announced as this years' homecoming king and queen.
RIO RANCHO — Rio Rancho High School held a "Rammies Award Show" coronation in the gymnasium in honor of homecoming week Tuesday, Oct. 1, and crowned its 2024 homecoming high court.
The RRHS homecoming week was dubbed "Red Carpet at Rio," and the theme was heavily inspired by Hollywood movies.
As members of the homecoming court walked down the red carpet, they were photographed by a swarm of paparazzi, and each pair of homecoming court members had a signature handshake that they would do before taking a seat.
Freshman Aaron Christensen and senior Victoria Phillips each performed a song in front of the Ram crowd. Christensen sang "The Greatest Show" from the movie "The Greatest Showman," and Phillips sang "Almost There" from the movie "The Princess and The Frog."
Both performances energized the crowd, and many students — and teachers — held phone lights in the air and continuously applauded.
Football lineman and DECA president Ibrahim Hoffman was announced as the 2024 RRHS homecoming king.
"It means the world, you know. I have a lot of friends here. I am glad that everyone in the school recognizes that I am always here, and that I am having a great time. I just want to thank them for this because honestly, we wouldn't have won if it wasn't for them," Hoffman said.
And student body president and National Honor Society member Anika Garduno was announced as the 2024 RRHS homecoming queen.
"It just means a lot to me that people notice me enough to vote for me, and it means that I have made a positive impact on my community," Garduno said.
RRHS Homecoming Coronation 2024
Other high court members included Jackson Roybal, who was named homecoming duke, and Bailey Fails, who was named homecoming duchess. Kiana Montoya was named homecoming princess, and Diego Archibeque was named homecoming prince.
It was also announced that RRHS had raised $360.47 for the Michael J. Fox Foundation and gave a big check to the charity organization.
Before the "Rammies Award Show "coronation began, RRHS celebrated the life of student Jason Padilla, who passed away May 19.
Through the service project, Rams Against Distracted Driving, RRHS students were asked to take the pledge — and take a stand — against distracted driving.
Padilla's family spoke and advocated for all to remember their son. Padilla would have been a senior this year.
