RIO RANCHO- On Oct 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Rio Rancho High School cheer program hosted a youth clinic for students aged 5-17 in the RRHS cafeteria.

"The kids' clinic was awesome! It was a great experience for the kids but also for the cheer team," RRHS cheer head coach Elisa Lopez said. "We had 85 kids from ages 5-17 that were able to participate."

Each student received a t-shirt and poms and got to cheer with RRHS cheerleaders during the Rio Rancho vs. Piedra Vista football game Oct. 11.

"They were taught motions, stunts and tumbling, and were able to get a taste of what it was like to cheer at a football game," Lopez said.

Attendees learned skills, techniques, cheers, dances, stunts, and more from RRHS varsity cheerleaders, and coaches.

"It’s a priority for the RRHS cheer program to give back to the community as much as possible. This was an honor to be able to teach the youth about not just cheer, but also the culture we have at RRHS and within the cheer program! And we hope to do another camp soon like this!" Lopez said.
