RRFR works to thin dead trees
Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue crew members cut trees for Willow Creek tree clearing Oct. 16.
RIO RANCHO — Tree clearing is bringing a few teams together near the bosque.
The Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue announced that the wildland division worked to clear the Willow Creek Bosque area of dead trees Oct. 17.
“This is phase one of five and will continue until April of next year. We are collaborating with State Forestry, Bosque habitat specialists, and other city agencies to prepare the area for fire and other hazards while prioritizing the well-being of plant and animal life, migration patterns, and habitats,” an Oct. 16 Facebook post reads.
Goats are currently in Willow Creek, actively thinning understory and ladder fuels as they move north, according to the post.
RRFR asked the public to exercise caution in Willow Creek and the Middle Rio Rancho Bosque where crews will be working.
