RRFR confirms red flag warning, what to do
With minimum humidity and strong winds, the potential for fires is strong in the Rio Rancho area April 18.
Albuquerque National Weather Service issued a red flag warning that will last from noon to 7 p.m. Rio Rancho is subject to some precipitation April 19 and 20, though.
"Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended," the warning states.
Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue posted warnings on social media about the danger, making some suggestions to stay safe during such weather.
What RRFR said to do during a red flag warning:
• Avoid open flames: Refrain from activities that could start a fire, such as burning debris, using campfires or operating equipment that produces sparks.
• Observe local restrictions: Follow any fire restrictions or closures implemented by local authorities.
• Stay informed: Monitor local news and weather reports for updates on fire conditions and warnings.
• Be prepared: Have an evacuation plan in place in case a wildfire threatens your area.
