RR Council approves automotive tech building site plan
A rendering gives an idea of what Automotive Technology Building will look like.
RIO RANCHO — The Rio Rancho Governing Body approved the site plan for a CNM-Rio Rancho Public School automotive technology building, which broke ground at its Zenith Court location May 22, at a regular council meeting June 12.
Amy Rincon, director of development services, presented the public hearing item for the building, which is on property called the Corrales North Business Tech Center. She informed council of the several renderings and plan documents attached in the agenda packet.
Included in those documents are some renderings of what the building will look like and plans detailing safety features, elevation and more.
CNM’s facilities department project manager Jennifer Davis was at the meeting to speak on the item.
“Rio Rancho’s High School students will be able to take these courses as dual credit and get college courses while they’re still in high school,” she said.
District 1 Councilor Deb Dapson said it was about time for Rio Rancho to get this opportunity.
“I think this is one of the best things that we’re doing for our students, and I am extremely excited,” she said.
She added that she enjoyed breaking ground for the building and looks forward to seeing it completed.
Mayor Gregg Hull also spoke up about the addition to the city, saying it gives kids the opportunity to bring those skills back into the community.
“Looking at this program and partnering it with the CTE building right next door, I think, is a really cool partnership, and it really shows a lot of innovative thinking. We’ve always appreciated our partnership with CNM and Rio Rancho Public Schools,” he said.
The planned Automotive Technology Building will sit next to the Career Technical Education building, which will officially open in August.
