The Albuquerque National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning that will last until midnight March 16.

East winds of 25-35 mph, including gusts up to 70 mph, are expected in the middle Rio Grande Valley, including the Albuquerque metro area and west-central Highlands.

Damaging winds can blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. The strongest winds will occur below canyons opening into Albuquerque and the Rio Grande Valley from the east, especially Tijeras Canyon. Dangerous crosswinds will impact north-to-south roads, including I-25 and Tramway Boulevard through eastern Albuquerque. Dangerous crosswinds are expected on north-to-south oriented roads, especially around Grants and Milan.

Take action to secure trash cans, lawn furniture and other loose or lightweight outdoor objects. Extremely hazardous driving conditions can be expected, especially for motorists in high-profile vehicles who should consider delaying travel.
