Three schools in Rio Rancho got the new school year off to a late start Tuesday.

Ernest Stapleton Elementary, Enchanted Hills Elementary and Mountain View Middle School were all closed on Aug. 6, the first day of school, because of HVAC issues. Those schools opened Wednesday.

But some students had to stand the heat in the classroom.

While the school year started on time at Rio Rancho Middle School, the school did send out an update to parents Wednesday about HVAC problems at the school.

“We are addressing the pockets of our school that are experiencing warm temperatures,” RRMS said in the update. “We have seen improvement in some of the trouble areas and are continuing to work with our facilities department to make sure conditions are comfortable school wide. We ask that students who wear hoodies to school have school appropriate attire underneath in case a room is on the warm side.”
