Rio Rancho High School principal Millan Baca sent an email to parents Tuesday afternoon "to dispel any rumors" after reports were received of a suspicious individual on campus.

"As our security officers approached and made contact with the individual in our courtyard, we learned that they were middle school-aged, not a student with RRHS, and were trespassing," Baca wrote. "After conversations with the individual, we understand that they were trying to visit a friend who is an RRHS student."

The trespasser was not in possession of any weapons and did not make any threats of violence toward students or staff.

"Out of an abundance of caution, there was a relatively large police presence that responded to our school," Baca wrote. "We take these kinds of situations very seriously and will respond to any threat with appropriate measures. The safety of our students and staff is and always will be a top priority for Rio Rancho High School."
