Rio Rancho breaks weather record

Monday’s high of 83 degrees broke a single-day record in Rio Rancho.

The previous high for March 28 was 80 degrees, set in 2019.

That comes after residents experienced temperatures in the 70s from Friday to Sunday.

However, the warm weather is about to end, for a little while.

A cold front will come on Tuesday and is expected to bring spring showers and about 25-degree cooler weather.

Highs are expected to barely reach 60 degrees with a 60 percent percent chance of rain and possible thunderstorms. Winds will also kick back up with gusts of up to 25 mph in the afternoon.

Less than a tenth of an inch of precipitation is expected, though more could fall during a thunderstorm, according to the National Weather Service of Albuquerque.

The chances of rain are likely to continue through the week as well with temps hanging around the mid-60s. Wind gusts could reach 45 mph on Wednesday.

Temps will eventually warm back up into the 70s over the weekend.
