Rio Rancho and Corrales warn about pet safety in the heat
With high temperatures reaching 104 degrees Fahrenheit this week, community members are warned of the precautions they should take to prevent heat-related emergencies. Sometimes overlooked, though, is the impact this can have on pets.
Rio Rancho Police Department posted on Facebook a reminder of the difference between air temperature and asphalt temperature. According to the post, when air temperature reaches 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the asphalt temperature can reach 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
The village of Corrales also issued a hot pavement safety notice and advises residents to take notice of pavement temperature.
“If you can’t place your skin comfortably on the pavement, neither can your dog,” reads the notice.
