ReadWest offering tutor training

Published Modified

RIO RANCHO — A local nonprofit is looking for tutors to help adults learn English and/or prepare for their high school equivalency exam.

ReadWest says it will train anyone interested in being a tutor, even if they are not bilingual or have no teaching experience. A background check is required for all tutors.

The training is free, but a $25 donation is strongly recommended to receive a tutor manual, which can be obtained at ReadWest’s office, 4131 Barbara Loop Southeast, Suite D-1. A $30 charge is required if the applicant requests the manual be mailed.

The next training session is scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the ReadWest office or in remote format. Once prospective tutors sign up for the training, a link to the remote session will be emailed to them.

Once trained, ReadWest will match tutors with an adult student to meet in a public place once a week for two hours.
