Desiree Gonzales, 31, of Rio Rancho, was arrested July 11 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery near the Starbucks at NM 528 and Coffee Lane.

According to a criminal complaint filed by police, they responded to a call of a road rage incident where a firearm was pointed.

The woman who called said another woman in a GMC had cut her off while traveling on NM 528. She said she followed the GMC to get a picture of the vehicle. When she got out of her car and walked toward GMC, the woman, identified as Gonzales, allegedly brandished a black firearm at her then threw a drink at her before driving away and parking at Starbucks.

Gonzales confirmed she was in a road rage incident with the caller and that the caller approached her car and that she threw the drink at her. She initially denied pulling out the firearm during the incident. After police searched the vehicle, they found a black firearm in the trunk. She then admitted to brandishing the weapon, telling officers she was concerned for her and her kid's safety but that she could have driven away.

Gonzales will face two years in prison if convicted.
