Danielle Sedillo, about 20, of Albuquerque, was arrested Nov. 30 at the Target on Crestview Drive for shoplifting, attempting to escape peace officer, possession of a controlled substance and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.

Officers responded to Target on a report of shoplifting in progress where a female was “skip scanning” items at the self-checkout.

They found Sedillo pushing a cart of items outside of the store and attempted to confirm the items in the cart to the store receipt she was holding. Police noticed multiple large items were not on the receipt and that Sedillo had no intention of paying for them.

During the investigation, the woman attempted to grab her bag and walk away from officers. Officers attempted to detain the woman and place her into handcuffs, but she continued to be resistant by pulling her arms away and using her legs and feet to resist officers. Once she was placed into handcuffs, she was escorted into the Target loss prevention office for further investigation and collection of evidence.

Sedillo claimed she was a 13-year-old child and refused to provide her name. While an officer was in the office attempting to gather the suspect’s information, a security officer with Target opened the door, and she stood up and began running out of the room and toward the exit. Officers were able to detain her and wait for backup officers. While officers were attempting to keep control of the woman, she pulled her arm and took her left arm out of handcuffs.

During further search, a small bottle of perfume was found in Sedillo’s purse, which was confirmed by loss prevention as a stolen item. Officers also found a small blue pill, believed to be fentanyl, wrapped in foil as well as three other loose pills and additional foils with burnt residue.

Sedillo, if convicted, will face 3 1/2 years in prison.
