Pokémon cup commenced despite cold snowy weather
Despite more than three inches of snow on Saturday, Feb. 10, Duke City Games in Rio Rancho was completely full of Pokémon Cup players.
The cup was postponed by an hour to allow players time to get there.
Alexandra Saavedra, store manager, says the tournament had 25 people in attendance, which is about the amount the space could hold.
“I think everybody had fun and I learned a lot for it to be better next time,” she said.
She added that it went well in spite of the weather and even though their food truck canceled on them.
Players were fixated on their game, but Saavedra had pizza and the movie “How to Train Your Dragon” on just in case they wanted a break.
At the end of the tournament the winner was Nathan Drumm.
Duke City Games has events throughout the year and entertains card players from other worlds besides Pokémon. Pokémon League days at the store occur every Tuesday and Saturday. They also have Digimon, Dungeons and Dragons, Magic and other trades and tournaments.
