PetSmart Rio Rancho to host adopt-a-thon this August

PetSmart will host a Clear The Shelters Adopt-a-thon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 26 at its Enchanted Hills location.

Shelters nationally are full of unwanted pets. In Rio Rancho, Watermelon Mountain Ranch and several other rescues/shelters are also struggling with overcrowding.

This event is backed by NM K-911, a volunteer nonprofit organization that fosters dogs and cats in need until they can find a permanent home.

Its main goal is to prevent animals from being euthanized.

According to K-911, New Mexico has a high kill rate in shelters.
