For the October/November exhibition at the Placitas Community Library’s Gracie Lee Community Room, artists were invited to portray women — specific women or imaginary composites — and their extraordinary achievements, physical attributes, historical contributions and the challenges they face as mother, daughter, wife, partner, friend, dreamer, dancer, scientist, sportswoman, artist, performer, leader, legislator, litigator, adventurer, goddess, warrior, mystic or muse.More than 20 artists responded to the challenge, resulting in an exhibition that features a wide array of media and points of view. The public is invited to a reception for the artists from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, October 13, and the work will be available for purchase with a percentage of the sale benefiting the library. There will be a pause in public access to the exhibit from Oct. 19 to Nov. 8 due to the presence of voting machines in the gallery during that time.
