ALBUQUERQUE — More than 20 people were displaced from their homes after a fire destroyed a Northwest Albuquerque apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.

A firefighter received non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, while a resident was evaluated at the scene but refused to go to the hospital, Albuquerque Fire Rescue spokesperson Lt. Jason Fejer said.

AFR responded to the call at the Puerta del Sol Apartments in the 4800 block of McMahon NE, near Golf Course Road — just outside of Rio Rancho — around 3:40 p.m. It took firefighters about two hours to put out the fire, he said.

At one point, firefighters were told to get out of the building, according to information coming over the public safety scanner.
