RIO RANCHO – On Nov. 2 and 3, the New Mexico Runners arena soccer team will be holding open tryouts for the 2024-25 season. This is the Rio-Rancho-based squad’s sixth season in the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL), an incorporated as a 501(c)6 not for profit corporation formed to promote the business and sport of indoor soccer.

The NM Runners play at the Rio Rancho Events Center and their season typically runs from December through March. There are 12 teams in MASL, and the Runners play in the Midwest Division, along with the Wichita Wings, Amarillo Bombers and Kansas Bandits.

This season, the team is holding open tryouts in the hopes of improving on last season’s 1-12 record. The Runners finished fourth in the Midwest in the 2023-24 season.

According to the news release, the tryout is expected to last roughly two hours, and some athletes may be asked to return at a later date for further evaluation.

The tryout fee is $60 at the door or $50 for the “Early Bird Special”. Athletes receive t-shirts, regardless of the outcome and the tryouts are open to anyone over 18 years of age. Check-in begins at 11 a.m. on Nov. 2.

Season tickets for the Runners are available now, as well. Packages start at $80 for the “Kick-Off Package”--which includes tickets to the Upper Bowl level and a season six scarf--and run up to $2,000 for the “VIP Box”--which entails 20 tickets in a private field level box at all home games and access to the French Family Fan Zone.
