New commission room begins design phase
BERNALILLO — Sandoval County has planned a new commission room, and now the project is heading into its design phase.
While the project’s end date is to be determined, public works construction and special projects manager Charles Martinez Jr. gave a tentative timeline for the project during a county commission meeting last month.
A graphic shows they expect to get the project permitted by October. Construction is expected to begin once that process is complete.
Before that happens, there are a few hoops the project needs to go through. Basic design begins this month with schematics. Then, design development takes the project into June. The project will be in the construction design phase through September.
As conceptual renderings currently show, the new commission room will sit adjacent to the administration building on the ground floor. It would have an external entrance from the parking lot in addition to a door into the main lobby. Inside, there will be two sections of seating for the audience and panel-style seating arrangement for the commissioners. The room will be equipped with new screens for presentations.
At this time, the project is about 20 percent into its design phase.
