Names released in pedestrian fatalities

On Monday, The Rio Rancho Police Department released the names of the pedestrians killed in two separate accidents Oct. 24.Michael Warnken, of Rio Rancho, was killed early in the morning on Terraza Blvd. while walking his dog. The accident occurred before 6 a.m. in the crosswalk at Valle Alto. Police also said that as of the most recent update they had Friday, the dog survived and has been released to Warnken’s family.The investigation, including of a reconstruction of the accident by the RRPD Traffic Unit, is still under investigation.At about 10 p.m. later that day, Victoria Aktsioglou of Rio Rancho was killed after being struck by multiple vehicles at the intersection of Southern Boulevard and NM 528. The report of that accident stated that she “disregarded traffic safety signals entering the intersection while traffic was flowing.”Police have been interviewing multiple witnesses of the accident, and they say no charges are expected to be filed.
