RIO RANCHO — A motorcyclist was flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after a serious single-vehicle crash on NM 528 Monday afternoon.

NM 528 at Rockaway Boulevard was shut down around 4 p.m. Feb. 24 due to the motorcycle crash. Southbound traffic flow was reopened at 5:30 p.m.

“At approximately 3:50 p.m., officers responded to the area of New Mexico State Road 528 and Rockaway Blvd. regarding a single-vehicle motorcycle crash. The preliminary investigation shows the rider was traveling southbound on NMSR528 and just before Rockaway Blvd, struck the median, causing the rider and motorcycle to begin to tumble,” Rio Rancho Police Department Capt. Jacquelynn Reedy stated at 6 p.m.

The male driver was flown to the UNM Trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

Northbound NM 528 remains closed until roadway evidence can be cleared.
