Michaela’s Muses: C’mon Barbie let’s go party

Hello Barbie!

My point of view when it comes to Barbie (and Ken) has been shifted completely by Mattel’s recently released movie “Barbie.”

When you hear that they are making yet another movie about a toy that you used to play with, you think that it is going to be childish and dumb, so imagine my surprise when the Barbie movie was anything but childish and dumb.

The Barbie movie was not what I expected, but in the good way. The movie in whole, is what I would call a perfect movie. I mean it. There was not one part that I disliked about it.

Without spoiling anything, the Barbie movie breaks down everything that is wrong and dysfunctional with gender roles in society. The movie explains everything so simply, but it is quite clear what the message is. I will not reveal this message to you, as I believe it is something everyone has to discover for themselves. That’s right, I said everyone.

While this movie may appear to be a chick flick, it is not. This movie goes beyond a doll. It goes beyond men and women, girls and boys. It goes beyond you and I even.

Not only was my point of view shifted when it comes to this doll, but when it comes to being human.

If you do not understand the message of the movie, then clearly you weren’t paying attention.

I won’t ask you to agree with the movie, but I will ask you to watch it and try to understand.

Not to mention, you might just catch yourself laughing, crying or both in a few moments of the movie.
