Man who had to be sedated pled guilty to lesser crimes

Andrew Rivas III, 37, of Bernalillo, was arrested Nov. 13 for two counts of aggravated battery upon a peace officer and three counts of aggravated assault upon a peace officer on Camino Isabella in Bernalillo. At the time, officers had to sedate Rivas.

Rivas pled guilty Feb. 5 to aggravated assault upon a peace officer with a deadly weapon and battery upon a peace officer.

He pled guilty on the grounds that he had been convicted for a prior felony offence.

As a basic sentence, Rivas will go to prison for three years, have two years of probation and have to pay a $5,000 fine.
