RIO RANCHO — An Albuquerque man was summoned Oct. 9 for an alleged arson that took place in July.

Diego Reyes-Dzul, 41, of Albuquerque, was summoned for third-degree felony arson with damage amounting to more than $2,500 but less than $20,000.

According to a criminal summons filed in the 13th Judicial District Court in Sandoval County, police and fire responded to a report of suspicious fluids and possible arson at the intersection of Unser and Westside boulevards. The homeowners discovered liquid splash marks, burn damage and the presence of octane booster and ammonia around the property.

The victims were reportedly not home at the time of the incident. They told police they left for a camping trip and returned home to the damage.

It was not the first time the victims had been subject to a fire incident, according to the statement. There were previous, separate incidents in July where a vehicle and a trash bin were found on fire, it states. The victims believed those fires were intentional as well.

The fire marshal confirmed 34 ignition points on the home in areas of the front and backyards. Additional burn damage was found on a window. Octane booster and ammonia were discovered near ignition points, along with other unfamiliar items such as motor oil in a trash can, palm oil soap, and burnt foil indicative of possible drug use, the statement reads.

Reyes-Dzul could face anywhere from one to 15 years if he is convicted.
