Man summoned for firing shot in credit union ATM drive-thru
Scott Lane, about 32, of Rio Rancho, was summoned Feb. 9 for shooting at or from a vehicle at the Rio Grande Credit Union on Unser Blvd.
On Nov. 11 caller reported they had had an argument with a man parked behind him at the ATM and that the man fired a gun out the window of his car. The victim was able to circle around behind the car and provide a license plate number to police.
Suveillance video corraborated this account, with the shooter yelling, ” “You have two seconds to (unintelligible dialogue).” After the shot was fired he states, “Next one is going in your ass!” The video then shows the victim pulling up behind the shooter’s car, as was reported. Both vehicles then sped off through the parking lot. Police didn’t find shell casings on scene.
A run of the license plate number revealed Lane as the registered owner.
On Dec. 19, police interviewed Lane. He claimed he let someone borrow his car only once, when he was intoxicated at a house party in the South Valley when a man asked to borrow his car to buy beer. However, he could not recall the date of the party or the identities of any witnesses, including the man who he claimed borrowed the car. When asked if he had ever been to Rio Grande Credit Union, he said he banks elsewhere.
Officers found his story unlikely and determined Lane was likely the shooter in the incident. He would face no more than a year and a half in prison if convicted.
